My Artist History

All of my life I have enjoyed nature and all of its beauty which I loved to depict in paintings using various mediums. As a youth during my last two years of grade school I took the Famous Artists Commercial Art correspondence course. Other than this I am pretty much self taught.

Being a full time artist and supporting a family did not allow me to pursue this as a vocation. I did occasionally paint for my own amusement and at one time owned a gallery first in Santa Ynez, California and later in Solvang, California. But with the oil embargo and the economic downturn of 1973 I needed to get a job that met the financial needs of my family.

I moved first to Los Angeles, then to New York City, to Washington DC and back to Orange, County, California working as an architect for large corporations in the lodging, casino and restaurant field. The long hours required in these positions did not allow me to continue with my artistic endeavors. My last painting was done in 1973. I have now retired and have discovered that even after not lifting a brush or pencil for 34 years that the skills are still there.

I now have a studio in my home where I work in oils, watercolors, and mixed media. I find that these mediums lend themselves well to studies in the lighting and colors of my favorite subjects whether it is my dog Shorty, a flower, an interesting landscape or an abandoned building.

I belong to the Californnia Art Club, Escondido Art Association, Escondido Arts Partnership, Oil Painters of America, San Diego Art Department and the San Diego Art Institute. I have entered competitions in these organizations and have received several awards.
